Need Apron Inspiration

I want to make Valentine Aprons, But I need inspiration!! Have you ever had a apron block???That's a new one for me..I work as a hair dresser in a nice salon and like to wear Aprons for all holidays. If I wear a apron some one wants to buy the apron or have me make one, I usually make two sided / reversible aprons.,Your getting two Aprons for the price of one.

I usually have $20.00 just in fabric and charge $25,00 for the apron so really there is no way to make a couple extra $ on my aprons.Sad to say. But I LOVE aprons and am happy to break even. Wearing a apron and working as a hair dresser I always need a pocket.

and of course a full apron not a a half apron, I need inspiration!! Some thing simple yet fun , for Valentines Day,Does any one have suggestions?? I'd really appreciate it

Eye Masks & Pillows Collection
Lavender Eye Pillow Pattern: (pdf download) Includes pattern for a slipcover and carrying case. Filler is dried navy beans, dried rice or lentils and dried lavender.
Sherpa Lined Eye Mask: (pdf) Make a cozy sherpa mask with this free pattern (template for the mask is at the bottom of the pdf), trimmed with organic gingham bias trim (and casing for the elastic). From Making It Fun.
Do Not Disturb Lavender Pillow: This charmer is made with linen and filled with 2 parts dried lavender and 1 part flax seed or rice. Includes “Do Not Disturb” image download (notice the lovely lavender sprigs she stitched along the sides).
Woven Silk Lavender Eye Mask: Ha! I finally found this Martha Stewart pattern online (it used to be on her website and then it was gone)…I made these several years ago as gifts and they are nice! No straps for the masks, they lay across your face. Filled with 3/4 cup flaxseed and 2 tablespoons dried lavender. This is now hosted on Martha’s Whole Living website (includes the mask template to download).
Luxury Fabric Eye Pillow: This is a basic eye pillow that’s similar to what’s already been posted above, but I included it to show how little pieces of luxurious fabrics (such as crushed velvet or silk brocade) can make an eye pillow totally gift worthy.
Sleepy Time Eye Mask: Includes mask template that you can download (jpg file). Recommends using a flannel piece (on the side that touches your face) and a layer of corduroy in the middle (to make sure the mask blocks light). Held in place with fabric covered elastic.
Patchwork Eye Pillow & Slipcover: Slipcover front is worked in fabric patches, back is solid and fastens with a button and string loop. Pillow is filled with flaxseed.
Minkee Eye Mask Pattern: Very similar to above pattern, uses decorative elastic so it saves you a step in covering it. Includes a free pdf template download for the eye mask.

Tissue Pouch How-To1. To create an iron-on design for your pouch, print the template of your chosen design (Frenchie dog, African violet flower, rose or sycamore tree). Roughly trim excess paper from around the design.
2. Cut a piece of fusible web to size of trimmed template. Iron fusible web onto a piece of felt, and let cool.
3. Tape template onto paper side of felt/fusible web piece. Cut out shape.
4. To make the tissue pouch, cut a 6-by-7-inch piece of felt or ultrasuede. Iron strips of 1/4-inch-wide Steam-a-Seam adhesive to both 7-inch edges.
5. With adhesive strips facing up, fold one 6-inch side 1 1/2 inches in toward center and press in place. Fold the other 6-inch side 2 inches toward center, overlapping the first side, and press in place.
6. Press iron-on decoration onto front of pouch.

Ah, the glorious colors of Fall! Who doesn't love this season, with the beautiful leaves, colorful pumpkins and funny scarecrows. Fall has got to be my favorite season! I love to decorate for fall: it's cheap and easy with so many glorious, natural colors around you!Here are some simple and frugal ideas to get into the swing of the season. I tend to enjoy craft and gardening projects that decorate my home, so many of these suggestions are a bit "crafty".

Salt dough Whip up a batch of salt dough (1 cup flour, 1 cup salt, 1/2 cup wateror enough to make a nonsticky dough) and cut into fall shapes or use a fall cookie cutter (leaves, pumpkins, etc).Bake at 200 degrees,30 minutes per side, more if item is thick or large. Paint and hang in windows, on a stick "tree"anchored in more salt dough, the sky is the limit! Shape into fall figurines for knick knacks- such Indians, Pilgrims, animals, etc.

Paper mache' Combine equal portions of flour and water, soak news paper strips in them. Drape over a form- a balloon, a bottle. dry and add more layers, using a paste of flour and water as "glue" if necessary. You can make pumpkins, Halloween masks, you name it!

Tin Can Luminarias Use large, clean cans, such as coffee cans. Put water in them and freeze. Tape a "pattern" of the hole you want to punch into the can, then punch holes with a nail and hammer. Be careful! Dump out ice, dry out and paint can, if desired. Put sand on bottom of can, put in candle and light. Attach your sewing pins to your body and you’re pretty much guaranteed not to misplace them.
I’ve had pincushions on the brain after this post, so today I made a handy wrist pincushion. Simple to sew, it’s made from one fabric scrap, some filling and velcro. Easy! The measurements should be correct for an average sized woman’s wrist, but you can measure your own wrist and make necessary adjustments. The pincushion in the center takes up 3″ of space, so be sure to account for that. I thought about adding a cardboard piece to keep you from poking your arm with pins, but decided to leave that out as I found that I didn’t have any problems. But use caution!

Washcloth slippers make a wonderful gift for those who do a lot of traveling, as they take up almost no space in a suitcase. In addition, they make great bazaar or flea market items. Check the stores for “bundles” of washcloths, which would be much cheaper to buy, or use old towels and cut to fit. Velour is also a very nice fabric for these pretty slippers. You could make a pair for every day of the week, just throw them into the washer.

Seersucker Apron: Vintage Sewing Pattern
Materials Needed:

Vintage Seersucker Apron Pattern1 yard – Striped Seersucker (36″ wide)9 yards – RickrackThread
Directions for Cutting:
1 piece: 27″ x 28″2 pieces: 4″ x 27″ for ties
Directions for Making:
On tie pieces, finish all except one short end with narrow machine hem.
On apron piece, turn under and press 1/4″ along sides and bottom.
Along top (28″) edge, turn in 1/4″ to wrong side, then fold down 4 1/2″. Baste this edge down and stitch with a loose machine stitching.
Insert unfinished ends of ties in 3″ of space above this stitching line, pleating slightly if necessary.
Run loose machine stitching across apron through both thicknesses 1 1/2″ down from top edge and 1″ apart between other 2 rows.
Stitch rickrack under edge of apron so that just points show, starting from top edge of tie, up and across top of apron and down to top of tie on opposite side. Do the same around the sides and lower edge of apron, starting at bottom edge of tie.
Pull up rows of loose machine stitching to measure 13″, tie thread ends securely and distribute gathers evenly.
Stitch rickrack through the center over the middle 2 lines of gathers.
Stitch rickrack across the top line and continue down the side where the tie is joined, across the lower row of gathers and up the other side to meet the top row.

No fussing with binding tapes as this quilt is self-bound. All you need for supplies are fabric for the top and bottom of the quilt, a skein of embroidery floss (to tie the quilt) and quilt batting.

Choose a mix of your favorite fabrics, pile on the petals,

and watch your garden grow -- dozens of fanciful

pincushions could sprout up over a weekend.

Finished Pincushion: 6 X 6 X 3"
Quantities are for 44/45"-wide, 100% cotton fabrics.
Measurements include 1/4" seam allowances.
Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated.

Cut Your Fabrics

Cut pieces in the following order.
From multicolor print, cut:
-- 8 of Pattern A
-- 1 of Pattern D
From orange floral, cut:
-- 16 of Pattern B
From magenta polka dot, cut:
-- 1 of Pattern C
From heavy interfacing, cut:
-- 1 of Pattern C

Assemble Pincushion
1. Sew together multicolor print A pieces in a row to make pincushion side Clip seam allowances; finger-press seams to one side.(Diagram 1). Clip seam allowances;

2. Join two orange floral B pieces, leaving short edge open for turning Turn right side out. Press to make a petal. Repeat to make eight petals total. (Diagram 2).
Turn right side out. Press to make a petal. Repeat to make eight petals total.

3. Matching center marks at raw edges, pin petals to outside of pincushion side; baste
(Diagram 3).

4. Sew together ends of pincushion side to make a circle, leaving an opening for stuffing
(Diagram 4).
5. Matching dots, baste magenta polka-dot C circle to top edge of pincushion side (Diagram 5). Join together 1/4" from edge. Clip seams; turn to right side.

6. Stuff lightly with fiberfill until pincushion stands on its own.

7. Baste small gathering stitches 1/8" from edges of multicolor print D circle. Center interfacing C circle on wrong side of D circle; pull gathers tight, wrapping D circle around interfacing, to make pincushion base (Diagram 6). Secure thread. Press.

8. Hand-sew pincushion base to bottom opening.
9. Stuff firmly with fiberfill. Hand-sew side opening closed to complete pincushion.

Sunbonnet Sue Blocks and Patterns

The block was done by Paula Bundick's grandmother, Alta P. Meador Probasco of Floydada, TX. She lived to be 93 and 3/4 years old.

It is a perfect pattern for someone making their first Sunbonnet Sue. All the curves are gentle and easy to turn under.

Notice the details that were put on this antique block. Grandmother put buttons (black embroidery thread) on the shoes and a band around the hat that ends in a bow.

Paula writes: "This quilt is extremely simple. All the blocks are muslin (of course) but done on the diagonal and there is a 1 1/2" diamond where the blocks join. Along the edge the same gold was used to fill in the diamond
shapes and use as the bias trim.

I feel very fortunate to have several quilts that my Grandmother made.
I treasure each one. But this Sue is very special."

What's new in 2009:

In 2009, I'm going to try out a couple new things. For one, I will be doing a monthly theme. The themes will be purely for inspirational purposes and to give some focus to anyone who needs it. You can use the monthly theme to help spur you on or ignore it. It's entirely up to you!
January's (totally optional) theme is: Play!
February's (totally optional) theme is: Words
March's (totally optional) theme is: Dreams
April's (totally optional) theme is: Color
I will post about the next month's theme about a week before the month starts on the Creative Every Day blog.
I'm also going to be posting interviews with people about their creative habits, so if you have any suggestions of people you'd like to hear from, let me know!

How to Participate:

There are a variety of ways to participate. These ways are here for you to enjoy, not to pressure you, so use any or all of them as you see fit. You can post on your blog about your creative activities, you can post images on flickr, you can comment on my weekly CED blog posts with what you're up to, or use the "Mr. Linky" widget to share a link to a specific blog post or image.
Participate in any way that makes sense for you. I think it's helpful to share with the community what you're up to as it can be incredibly fun and inspirational. But don't let it stress you out. Make it doable for you.
There's a flickr group for this project where you can share images of your creativity (it's not required, just another way to share and see what others are doing.) You can sign up for the flickr group for free here.
You can post about your creativity in whatever form feels best for you. You can post about it on your blog daily, weekly, monthly or however feels best. A blog isn't even required to participate! If you don't have a blog, you can share what you're up to in the comments on my blog or on the flickr group.
I will also be posting a weekly Creative Every Day Challenge post where you can use the "Mr. Linky" widget to post the url of your blog posts or links to images for the week. I post this every Monday. Here's an example of one of these posts so you'll know what to look for.

I started the Creative Every Day Challenge in 2008 and I welcome anyone who is interested, to join in!

Every November, I loved the way the "Art Every Day Month" challenge (AEDM) created a great sense of community, brought people with different styles and backgrounds together, and gave me a kick in the butt to keep on creating when I might otherwise have done nothing. I'd been wanting to find a way to extend the process, but as much as I admired those who created and posted a piece of art every day of the year, I knew that would burn me out. Besides, it was not really my goal to create a piece of art every day. But I did want to be creative every day.

Originally, I was going to call my blog, "Everyday Creative" which to me means a person who is creative in their day-to-day life whether that be through making a piece of artwork or doodling on a receipt or cooking something or taking a walk to gain inspiration in the colors of nature or re-decorating a room or knitting or whatever! That domain name was taken, so I went with CreativeEveryDay.com and included Everyday Creative in the tag line. One of the things I aspire to, is to be creative every day and also to inspire creativity in others, whether that be through my blog, my art, through leading groups like AEDM, or through someday leading workshops or writing a book. I know that challenging myself in specific ways helps to keep me productive, so I'm hoping this challenge will serve as a daily reminder of what I want for myself.

I loved doing CED in 2008. I met some wonderful people and having the challenge, helped keep creativity as a focus in my daily life. I believe that what we focus on expands and that was certainly the case for me and many other participants. So I decided to continue in 2009. I created a new logo for 2009 and I've posted it above. It will also be in my sidebar along with a list of those who are participating. You don't need a blog to participate! Again, this will be a very low pressure challenge. I won't be the creativity police with you (or myself!) The idea behind it will be to encourage myself and others to find creativity in every day and in the everyday things of life. I won't post daily because I think that would be a bit too much of a burden for me, but I will post about every day's creativity in some form or another. And I'll encourage others to do the same, whether that be every day, every few days, once a week or once a month. Throughout the year, I'll also be posting creativity tips that help me and hopefully will provide some inspiration to anyone looking to infuse their life with more creative goodness or who might need a little push to get out of a stuck place. If you have questions or want to join in, feel free to pop me an email or leave a comment on any post on my blog here.

Here’s the latest embroidery pattern set I’ve chosen for the next vintage series to share, charming bluebirds–how nice to have ready for Spring! The birds are mainly worked in cross stitch. I believe this set is at least 60 years old (1940’s). There are seven different patterns for tea towels, one for each day of the week. This style of pattern is known as “Days Of The Week” or “DOW” dishtowel patterns but many used the designs for other things as well. http://tipnut.com/bluebird-embroidery/
